Moulis En Medoc is an overlooked commune of Bordeaux’s left bank that consistently produces an old-fashioned style of red wine, with earthy heft. The 2016 vintage is currently singing. On the palate this wine combines blackberry and ripe plum, notes with some very Bordelaise, savoury, leathery depths.
It is no surprise that this wine overdelivers as it hails from the stable of the recently departed Anthony Barton of the famous Léoville Barton and Langoa Barton Estates in Saint-Julien. Despite their loftier price tags, the Barton wines continue to be known as hold outs of consistency and value in Bordeaux’s tumultuous market. We think this one is a steal.
