We sell a lot of Chassagne Montrachet Rouge. This is a little surprising as white wine accounts for at least 70% of the region’s output and is definitely the more famous export. Chassagne Rouge is not for everyone, it is a lighter, often less opulent style of Pinot. It is, however, one of my favourite things, as the more floral and perfumed style captures (for me) the essence of what makes the Pinot Noir grape so special.
This was my favourite Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge of the tastings this year. Coffinet-Duvernay has captured the essence of the region very well, with flavours fresh cherry, balanced by a rose petal floral and a finish of bitter orange, nutmeg and cassia that you can taste in your nose. Not the lushest wine, but maybe one of the most aromatic that we tasted this year.
